My name is John Roebel and I am one of the new pediatric radiology fellows. For me, coming to Cincinnati Children’s is an opportunity to return home. I was born and raised here, growing up on the west side of Cincinnati in Delhi and attending Elder High School (Go Panthers!). I went to college at Saint Louis University, then graduate school and medical school at Wright State University, followed by radiology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. My wife Jessica is also a doctor. She is currently working at Mercy Anderson as a hospitalist. We have three boys, ages 5, 3 and 1, and we are expecting our fourth child in March. Luckily, my wife and I both have family in Cincinnati to help us since we clearly have our hands full!
Being from the area, I always knew that Cincinnati Children’s was an outstanding hospital, so when the opportunity arose to continue my medical training here it was an easy decision. I was thrilled to get the chance to learn from some of the best pediatric radiologists and clinicians in the world.
As a pediatric radiology fellow, I am on the front lines of healthcare for the children of Cincinnati. If your child is sick or hurt and needs an imaging study, a fellow like me interprets the study and helps the clinical team decide the best way to care for him or her. I hope to stay at Cincinnati Children’s for an additional year of fellowship, specializing in Pediatric Interventional Radiology so I can learn how to perform minimally invasive procedures to help solve health problems specific to children. It is a dream come true to return to Cincinnati to help care for the children in my hometown.
